Note: Francis Adams is a 10th generation descendant of Samuel Adams, cousin of President John Adams. He was educated at the New York City public schools, the City College of New York, and the law school of New York University, before beginning a career as a journalist and author. He was editor of "Printers Ink," on the staff of the New York Journal, and associate-editor of the New York Commercial [as of 1912]. During the Spanish-American war in 1898 he was lieutenant in the fourteenth regiment, New York volunteer infantry.
