Note: A US pulp magazine published by Fictioneers, Inc., a subsidiary of Popular Publications. There were four volumes of four issues each, 16 issues in total. They were edited first by Frederik Pohl (February 1940 - September 1941, 9 issues) and then by Alden H. Norton (November 1941 - April 1943, 7 issues). Each issue contained 112 pages and cost $0.10, the lowest among science fiction pulps of the era.
"Astonishing Stories" was the sister publication to "Super Science Stories". While "Super Science Stories" specialized in short novels, "Astonishing Stories" concentrated on short fiction. It published a number of notable works, including E. E. "Doc" Smith's "Vortex Blaster" stories and Donald A. Wollheim's "Mimic", which was later turned into a movie.
