  • Note: Monthly literary magazine based in New York City March 1900 to June 1930 The Smart Set: A Magazine of Cleverness (full title, 1900 to 1910s) The original editor Arthur Grissom (died 1901) "created the formula of the magazine that would remain intact throughout the greater part of its existence: 160 pages containing a novelette, a short play, several poems, and witticisms to fill blank spaces." H. L. Mencken and George Jean Nathan (1882–1958) became the literary critic and drama critic in 1908 and 1909 respectively, and were the named co-editors from December 1914 through 1923 or early 1924.
