The Afterword for the collection as a whole, first appeard as the (untitled, italicized) introduction to Lodestar in the Astounding John W. Campbell Anthology in 1973, while the introduction to Lodestar used here is the introduction to that story which originally appeared in the Earth Book of Stormgate collection issued in 1978. The Introductions to 'Day of Burning', 'A Little Knowledge', and 'Lodestar' shown below do not appear on the TOC of the html ebook the data was entered from. Because they represent identifiable bits of writing, which can be traced across multiple publications and collections (and have also been excluded from some publications), and are documented in the copyright notice as separate works, they have been identified here. These introductions previously appeared in the 1978 Earth Book of Stormgate as quotes/excerpts attributed to "—Hloch of the Stormgate Choth The Earth Book of Stormgate"
