Copyright page apparently states:   First published in this series September 1940   Reprinted 1944, 1945, 1947, 1948[?] The "notes and questions" by Ratcliff constitute the last chapter alone: an 8-page essay that incorporates two numbered lists of short story elements and 12 pages of numbered items for "Discussion or Composition", one section for each story and one "General". The essay portion closes with this note (p206): N.B. — Two of the longer stories in this book are printed in incomplete form so that the reader may invent and write up his own completion.
