    • Most contents translated by Sarah Elizabeth Utterson from the French Fantasmagoriana (which was itself translated by J.B.B. Eyries from various German sources).
    • HathiTrust Digital Library (catalog record) and Internet Archive title page provide full view of one copy from the Library of Congress whose interior is complete. The plain red cloth cover, with LC bookplate affixed inside, may not be original. On the title page, "Mrs. Utterson" is pencilled under the line (all caps) "translated from the French."
    • Price is from lists (5 found) of new publications in September- and October-dated issues. Two from October may be quarterly lists: "List of New Works Published in the Months of June, July, and August, 1813" British Review and London Critical Journal 5.9 p267; and "Quarterly List of New Publications, from August, to November 1813" Edinburgh Review p246. There is a short listing without comment in the February 1814 next issue of The British Review (#5.10 p535), as new works published Dec, Jan, and Feb. Hardcover format is from the most complete of five listings (Brit Rvw #5.9), in full: "Tales of the Dead ; principally translated from the French. Crown 8vo. 9s. boards." None of 5 listings names a publisher or contributor. No contributor is identified in the one 1813/1814 review found by search for the title: New Review or Monthly Analysis of General Literature 2.12 (December 1813) p593-95.
