    • 2nd ed. Published for the 1864 Christmas gift season, as 1865. Distinguished by its hand-coloured plates and red cover.
    • Publication date and price from "Routledge, Warne & Routledge's List of Gift-Books", The Athenaeum #1934 (1864-11-19) p657; as "5s.; or with Coloured Plates, 7s. 6d." This title is so listed to the end of the year (latest found, -12-24) and previously listed as "Cloth gilt, price 5s." (in "[RWR]'s List of New Books"; earliest found, -10-08). The collection of advertisements found in the weekly Athenaeum implies October and November publications.
    • Bennett is credited as Charles Bennett on the cover. Title page (quote): related and illustrated by C. H. Bennett, in twelve "stories." Some library records credit the engravers, Dalziel Brothers.
    • HathiTrust Digital Library provides full view of one copy with original front cover: gold-stamped lettering and decoration identical to those of the 1st ed., on red background with relief decoration.
    • Human figures of the front cover decoration are two from the illustration for "Story the Sixth: Of Wagers", reproduced as a plate facing page 47 (engraved by Dalziel and hand-coloured --WorldCat).
    • WorldCat library records (OCLC, below) report copies of this edition, but note the other: "Issued also with uncolored ill." (The other cover is gold on dark blue.)
    • The only British Library record (BL, below) reports "1865 [1864]" --published during 1864 with 1865 date-- without detail that would identify the edition.
