• Notes: This is first UK publication of the story (or earliest known to SFE3). The first four words of the title were new, and may be unique among publications of the story as of 2020. This may be the original for the German-language edition, also 1836 per the British Library, BL 002208300. HathiTrust Digital Library provides full view of one copy: -- opening "Advertisement" (viewed at HathiTrust) The book contains a one-page "Advertisement", followed by its text of the story proper, which omits the first paragraph of the original. It concludes with the original, concluding, bracketed note, except without the final "--Ed. Sun". Thus the work is minimally(*) revised to fit the British audience, where The Sun of New York had published the original as reprinted from a recent issue of a British journal. (*) The text has not been examined in other respects.
