by 1943 acquisition, Lippincott reissued some books with no stated date except the copyright year. Some may be stated first editions, presumably meaning either unrevised or first issued as Lippincott.
In 1978 J. B. Lippincott was sold to Harper & Row. The company was then sold to Wolters Kluwer in 1990 who merged it with Raven Publishers and then with Williams & Wilkins to form Lippincott Williams & Wilkins in 1998.

Joseph Wharton Lippincott, Jr.
