Bertelsmann era, 1980s to present
Media conglomerate Bertelsmann acquired the US publisher Doubleday
(1946 to present) in 1986 and made "Doubleday" a publisher or imprint of the Bantam Doubleday Dell Publishing Group in 1988. Bertelsmann acquired Random House in 1998, and made Doubleday an imprint under the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group in 2008/2009, under Random House in turn.
