Crowell-Collier established the Collier Books imprint soon after completing acquisition of and merger with the US publisher Macmillan, or The Macmillan Company, in 1960. "Crowell-Collier ran Macmillan as a subsidiary but in 1965 Crowell-Collier officially changed its name to Crowell Collier & Macmillan, Inc."
