(1857–1949) and John Sanborn Phillips
(1861–1949), who founded the monthly McClure's Magazine
in 1893, published by The S. S. McClure Co.
Phillips left the magazine in 1906.
S. S. McClure had been partner in Doubleday & McClure
, 1897 to 1900, and he sold his book publishing operations to Doubleday, Page in 1908.
