Note: Zauberkreis was founded in 1946 in Bühl, 20 Kilometers from Rastatt, in the then French sector, and specialized on French Poetry. Following the introduction of the new currency 'Deutsche Mark' in 1948 and apparent bad sales numbers, Zauberkreis was taken over by the printing house Greiser based in Rastatt. Greiser established Zauberkreis as a publishing house for dime novels: The first was the romantic 'Gold-Roman' in 1951, followed by 'Silber-Roman' in 1952. In 1985 Zauberkreis was sold to competitor 'Pabel' and, for a while, Pabel maintained the Zauberkreis brand. Official dates of publication are scarce. What is known for certain is:
- Ads for Western digests of the 1970s state that new editions were available on Mondays, so most likely all other publications were too.
- "Unger Western" started in the first week of February 1973, i.e. 5 February. Science Fiction #131 was published simultaneously.
- "Larry Brent" started on 21 April 1981, being a Tuesday - however there is no evidence that Zauberkreis actually changed its day of publication until it was taken over by Pabel-Moewig in 1985. The assumption here is that the day of publication changed to Tuesdays with January 1981.
- As per the back catalogues on the digests' last pages Zauberkreis occasionally skipped a week in the last week of the year in order to re-align the resp. publication schedules. This has been identified for the years 1969 and 1973-1981.
