Note: London 1851 to 1858 Founded 1851 by George Routledge and Frederick Warne Succeeded 1858 by Routledge, Warne & Routledge This publisher may be considered one stage in the history of the Routledge business(es), 1836 to 1998 and continuing as a division and imprint. George Routledge (1812–1888), a bookseller from 1836, and his assistant William Henry Warne (died 1859) were booksellers and publishers of fiction in cheap editions. Frederick Warne (1825–1901) worked for them from age 14. Routledge and Frederick Warne as partners established the publishing company George Routledge & Co. in 1851. It was succeeded by Routledge, Warne & Routledge on 9 November 1858 when eldest son Robert Warne Routledge became a partner. The Warne brothers were brothers-in-law of Routledge, although his wife their sister died in 1855 and he remarried 11 May 1858. --Wikipedia
