Note:
This 13-volume series reprinted all the stories in
Aunt Mavor's Nursery Tales for Good Little People (1st ed., Routledge, 1855). The British Library dates the series as starting in 1856. Relying on the company address stated in the last volume, the entire series must have been printed by 1858. It is likely that Routledge issued the entire series simultaneously (as it did other similar children's series) so we date them all as 1856.
Four volumes are not in the database (December 2016) as not meeting our definitions of speculative fiction:
- 1. Nursery Alphabet
- 7. Babes in the Woods
- 9. The Dog's Dinner Party
- 12. Butterfly's Ball
(One WorldCat record of the single-volume collection, OCLC 1008126517 reports three of those titles as "The Nursery Alphabet", "Children in the Wood", "Butterfly's Ball (and) Grasshopper's Feast". For all 9 chapbooks in this database, its listings match the chapbook titles below.)
Series 1 comprised 14 volumes, of which few are interesting to us -- perhaps number 4 alone, a version of Reynard the Fox.
"Aunt Mavor" is house name presumably.
One WorldCat record of #6 Aladdin,
OCLC 179283243 includes three Notes and a Description probably relevant to the series. One of those Notes:
"Signature of Mrs. Major, Cromwell House written parallel to the spine on the front wrapper."
