  • Note: Distinguished by book titles [main] Every Child Should Know, or [main] That Every Child Should Know for some short main titles. A majority of the earliest volumes are anthologies edited by Hamilton Wright Mabie, who may have been series editor. One 1907 list of 'The "Every Child Should Know" Books' contains 5 anthologies edited by Mabie (Fairy Tales, Famous Stories, Heroes, Legends, Myths), 3 anthologies as "Edited by" others (Hymns, Poems, Songs), and 2 works as "By" others (Birds and Water Wonders). Beside reprints, and various new editions (revised, cut, illustrated, re-illustrated) some of the works were reissued in the 1930s/40s as part of the What Every Child Should Know Library.
