Originally created to publish articles about "physical geography, natural sciences, the most recent discoveries, inventions and observations", it has also published some fiction, including science fiction. Continuous publication in 1861-1868 (St. Petersburg), 1885-1917 (Moscow), 1927-1941 (Leningrad/Moscow), 1946- (Moscow).
