Title: Introduction (Creeps by Night: Chills and Thrills) Title Record # 1068456
Author: Dashiell Hammett
Date: 1931-00-00
Type: ESSAY
Language: English
Note: The 1931 anthology Creeps by Night: Chills and Thrills contains 21 stories selected (as judge of public nominations; see the collection record) and introduced by Dashiell Hammett. Smaller anthologies containing 18 stories (in 1932) and 10 stories (three in the 1960s) among the 21 were published under different titles, only one matching the original in its fore-title Creeps by Night. The 1931 original introduction may have been revised by Hammett, who lived to 1961, and may have been cut to match the smaller anthologies derived from the original. Please note that in appropriate essay title records if and when it is known.
