Note: The stories that become the Arabian Nights developed during the 8th-12th century. The oldest extant version known is a 14th or 15th Syrian edition in the Bibliothèque National (France). The first translation into a European language was the Galland translation (of this Syrian edition) into French in 1704. This first translation into English was done anonymously in 1706 from the Galland translation. For more details, see the Wikipedia entry above.

The Longman edition is listed only under its first printing, in 1925. This was reprinted many times. Reported print dates (with editions where known) include: 1726 (4th), 1728 (7th), 1736 (8th), 1753-4 (10th), 1763 (11th), 1772 (13th), 1778 (14th), 1783, 1789, 1792, 1793 (18th), 1796, 1798 (19th). WorldCat lists a "1790" printing of this work, but notes that the imprint is false. The 1798 edition is a credited translation (R. Gough), and is listed separately under the title series. Several other editions listed below appear to be imprints of one of the Longman editions, and this is noted with those editions.
