Synopsis: Czech narrator is hired by lord Esdale to guide him to nearby caves in search for his wife who had disappeared in Himalayas where they discovered happy ascetic telepathic community of cavemen artists disdaining the modern world of homo sapiens; others live in Altamira etc. Injured in a fall, he is left by Esdale to die, but survives by his reason and perseverance, refuting the passive reclusiveness of snowmen.
