Note: First story of Nesvadba's debut coll of the same name (1958); longest of them all (11 thousand words).
Synopsis: Freakshow apeman turns out to be baron von Hoppe: lost in Africa as a baby, dubbed "a new Tarzan" by press, bitterly disappointed by human society as in his naivete he doesn't understand why people can't just agree better than fighting monkeys (the oilfields he inherited are wanted both by violent Nazis and UK capitalists). The narrator saves him, a. o. from pneumonia, but he hangs himself after final betrayal by his conniving fiancé.
