- The hero Alroy is an eastern Jew, during the 12th century, and is "Prince of the Captivity" as "an asserted descendant of David" who ruled the Jews for many purposes, although they acknowledged conquerors. ... "With regard to the supernatural machinery of this romance, it is Cabalistical and correct."
