Synopsis: In Corsica, Mateo Falcone is a landowner respected by local people and the many bandits of the region. One day, he leaves his house in charge of his ten-year-old son Fortunato. A fugitive comes by and asks to be hidden; Fortunato hesitates but agrees when offered a silver coin. When the police arrives, he turns over the fugitive in exchange for a larger bribe. The story takes its last violent turn when Mateo comes home and learns what his son has done.
