Note: This story was first published in September 1918 in the literary magazine 三田文学, Mita bungaku, "Mita Literature" [the name 三田, Mita, sinicized form Sanda from Mandarin Sāntián, means "three rice fields"]. The original Japanese title of this story, 奉教人の死, is transcribed as Hōkyōnin no shi in the Revised Hepburn notation, and means "Death of a professor".
