Synopsis: The protagonist "must deal with the impact of gentrification; take-no-prisoners community organizers; an unflinching cop from his past in Vietnam; an elderly sexpot out for his bones; a lusted-after magical skull; chronic-lovin' knuckleheads" (from the publisher's web-site). There's not only the magical skull of a shaman but the setting also seems to be a Los Angeles of the near future as the political circumstances and some technical gagdets imply (plus: the books mentioned are almost exclusively speculative in content).
