Note: "La belle et la bête" ("Beauty and the Beast") is an anonymous European folk tale adapted by many authors. Its first French version is credited to Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve (1740). It reached fame in a later shortened version by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, published in 1757 in her Magasin des enfants.
