Note: A version of this story was formerly published under the title "Mars Child" (1951). This title was first published in three parts, in the May 1951 issue of Galaxy.
Synopsis: The colonists of the Martian village Sun Lake City are accused of stealing a hundred kilograms of the hallucinogenic drug Marcaine. To be punished, the village shall be closed. When searching for the true perpetrators two of the colonists find a hidden people of Martians who stem from earlier human settlers. They do need the drug for their own purpose, and not only took the Marcaine.
