Note: According to https://fantlab.ru/blogarticle28113 , the story was first serialized in the Russian magazine "Русское богатство" ("Russkoe bogatstvo", St. Petersburg) in September-November 1913. An academically published dictionary (http://enc-dic.com/gallicism/Teorizaciya-27194.html) makes the same claim and quotes a sentence from the story. On the other hand, the notes in the German translation (published in 1986) claim that the story was first published in the magazine "Земля и вселенная" (transliterated "Zemlya i vselennaja", English "The Earth and the Universe") in 6/84 on pages 88-90. The text was written in 1910, much later found by the author's son in his estate and submitted to the magazine. The fact that the 1913 version of the story was serialized in three issues while the 1984 version was only 3 pages long suggests that the 1984 version was an excerpt. Further research is needed.
