Synopsis: From the Salt Lake Tribune, July 1, 1934: "Lieutenant John Fenton, in one of his squadron's first engagements, drives his sword through the body of a handsome German officer, whose bullet has just missed John, and the man's identity disc is left hanging on his saddle. The name is Leutnant W. v. Hartman. John cannot forget the man's face. Two years after, a wounded German prisoner is brought in and Fenton, following orders that must lead to the man's death, recognizes ihs face, the ring he wears; again Leutnant v. Hartman. His mental equilibrium thoroughly disturbed, Fenton is invalided home. It is some months before he is recovered, but finally he is back in France in the trenches. And in his own dugout he uncovers a German spy in a British uniform—W. v. Hartman. When Hartman faces the firing squad, Fenton is a raving maniac. It seems his mind is gone utterly, but after a long period and through a curious accident that takes him back into the war zone, he seems to be restored. After the armistice, he and the lovely girl he had married on the eve of going to France, consummate their marriage in an idyllic honeymoon at St. Moritz. While skiing with his wife, Fenton slips into a crevasse and is badly injured. A young German of the rescuing parly, Baron v. Hartman, goes down after him, and is attacked by a raving Fenton. The end is tragedy."
