Synopsis: Maximilian tells of a dancer he once knew, Laurence. She traveled with a troupe of poor street performers, but later became more prosperous and lost touch with them; they eventually all died in misery. Maximilian sometimes saw Laurence in the middle of the night drawn irresistibly to dance to the ghostly music played by her former companions.
