Synopsis: A narrative poem in prose, set in imaginary early times in Scotland. Dunthalmo murders his fellow chief Rathmor, but raises Rathmor's two sons. The sons intend revenge, which Dunthalmo learns, whereupon he attempts to kill them; but his daughter Colmal rescues one of them, Calthon, and they go to king Fingal for aid. Fingal sends his son Ossian with an army and Dunthalmo is defeated.
