Synopsis: Four people journey across the fantasy kingdom of Illornia to fix unstable magical gateways to the doomed realm of Nord D'Rae before the rest of the gateways are destroyed. They are: Reynart, the exiled prince-turned-assassin believed to have destroyed Nord D'Rae, Kerrim, a minstrel seeking advancement, Beryl, a mage eager to vindicate her late husband's work, and Angelique, the modern fantasy artist who visited this world ten years before, and has been haunted by it ever since. Fighting both each other and the mysterious forces that seem determined to make them fail, they must discover what really happened ten years ago before they can fix what's going wrong now.
