Note: This story was originally written in verse, at the end of the 12th or beginning of the 13th century. Its language is Anglo-Norman, one of the northern French languages.
Synopsis: A knight in Brittany is known for mysteriously disappearing three days a week. His wife talks him into revealing his secret, and he says he changes into a werewolf (bisclavret); she gets him to admit that he can't change back without his human clothes. She then plots with a neighbor to steal the clothes. The Bisclavret remains in the forest until the king almost kills him hunting, but spares him because of the seeming wolf's humanlike pleading for mercy. The Bisclavret then lives as the king's pet, until opportunity to reveal the truth and get revenge on his wife arrives.
