Originally found in Gemara (Taanit 8a), Tosafot, and Rashi; a longer version in "Sefer Arukh Hashalem"; also in "Ein Yaakov" (Ibn Habib, 16th century), "The Exempla of the Rabbis" (Gaster, M. 1924), and "The Maase Book", (Gaster, M. 1934).
Synopsis: A man saves a woman from a well and promises to marry her, but marries another and their union is cursed.
