The content of the original essay was heavily redacted by August Derleth, and two paragraphs were added at the end. These two paragraphs also end the essay "Robert Erwin Howard" by E. Hoffmann Price.
This essay begins "Eighteen years ago, I picked up a copy of Weird Tales . . .," though originally it was "Fifteen years ago . . ."
