- From The Pacha of Many Tales (1834), chapter 2. Chapter 2 contains relatively little of the frame story before and after the Greek slave's story.
- In two early editions: The story begins under a mid-page heading and continues under an identical running title, "Story of the Greek Slave." It ends with a blank line. --Carey & Hart, 1834; Bentley, 1849 (both viewed at HathiTrust)
- The Metropolitan Magazine (Saunders and Otley) published an irregular serial "The Pasha of Many Tales" as (quote) by the author of "The King's Own." HathiTrust Digital Library (catalog records 012304249, 006062037) holds no 1832/1833 volume as of December 2018. The earliest 1834/1835 instalment listed in a volume index (vols 9-14) is "No. XIII", published in the June 1834 issue, pp. 158-71. In the book that instalment is the chapter that contains "The Scarred Lover" (see).
