- Full title: The Master: An Adventure Story --UK and US national library records (and some newspaper coverage) of the 1957 editions, and some library records of some later eds.
- Full reviews in 1957 US newspapers: • Dan Wickenden, "T. H. White Spins a Tale Improbable and Fascinating", New York Herald Tribune -03-24 pE4 • Orville Prescott, "Books of the Times", New York Times -03-29 p19 Shorter reviews in UK newsweeklies: • John Bayley [1925–2015], The Spectator 1957-03-01 p290 • Maurice Richardson, The New Statesman -03-09 p316 All agree the novel is very good, at least, and worth the attention of adults, despite its outlandish and childish plot.
Synopsis:
Set on and inside Rockall, a small island more than 200 miles northwest of Ireland that Britain claimed in September 1955 (and later annexed) --purportedly in response to the world-threatening events featured in this adventure story, which occurred there that summer --on and inside the rock.
Twelve-year-old twins and their pet dog discover a plot to dominate the world, led by a 157-year-old genius physicist and telepath (mad scientist).
