The US government had recently requested publishers to accept a cut in the amount of paper that they use, so the magazine couldn't increase the page count as readers had requested. However, they planned to increase the word count by using a smaller font and use less white space. This turned out to be the last issue of "Science Fiction Stories" for the rest of the war years.
