1997Locus3 gives this as a novelette and states that it has been adapted by Aunt Louisa (<a href="http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/se.cgi?arg=Laura%20Valentine&amp;type=Name&amp;mode=exact">Laura Valentine</a>) from the 1698 original. The implication being it is more than a translation. The other versions of "The White Cat" are listed as a short story so it is longer if ISFDB and Locus3 are correct.
