Note: This is a crime story with a few elements of suspense and terror but no hint of the supernatural.
Synopsis: During the 18th century, a wealthy stranger purchases a house in an isolated small town. Although no one knows his antecedents or the source of his income, he so charms the town and country gentry that they do not wish to ask questions, even as reasons for suspicion accumulate.
