The numbering of this series as used in the ISFDB disagrees with the numbers shown on the covers and spines of most of these books. {{BREAK}} The first book published in this series, Angel with the Sword, 1985, has a cover identifying it as "Merovingen Nights", but with no number. We assign it #1. This book is a novel by C. J. Cherryh. All remaining books in this series are anthologies edited by Cherryh. The second book in the series is Festival Moon, published in 1987. Its cover also says "Merovingen Nights", with no number, but "Merovingen Nights #1" appears on the spine. This book follows Angel with the Sword both chronologically (in our world) and with respect to the action (in their world), and is called "#1" by the publishers because it is the first anthology in this series. We call it "Merovingen Nights #2". From this point on, all succeeding anthologies have "Merovingan Nights #XX" (with XX = 3 to 7) on both the cover and the spine. But in all cases, we assign a number one larger to these books because of the duplication of the use of "#1" for this series.
