Note
Publisher notes begin each anthology with acknowledgments of previous publishers "for permission to use" particular story titles --by publisher name and anthology/collection title-- with no editor/author of a source anthology/collection identified in the first book, progressively more such information in each subsequent "Publishers' Note". Those acknowledgments by the publishers cover about 130 of 260 stories in the first four books. Introductory essays, absent in the third book, do not reveal the contribution of the co-editors to the texts of the other half of the stories. The Talking Beasts: A Book of Fable Wisdom is the fifth book in the series, first published by Doubleday, Page in 1911, LCCN 11-29994. Its listed Contents are 12 sections, "I. Fables of Aesop. (Greek)" and so on; the concluding "Index of Titles" spans 11 pages --in the undated Grosset & Dunlap edition (see at HathiTrust, where it is mis-catalogued as the 1911 Doubleday, Page).
