In the July, 1959 issue of "The Dude" magazine, John Christopher has a short story called "Happy as a Dog." It's definitely sci-fi, and definitely the same John Christopher as No Blade of Grass, since in an editorial in the issue they make note of his recent movie deal. I hope this is helpful, thank you.
