DAN RUBIN is a writer of fiction, non-fiction, poetry and journalism. He is an experienced editor and publisher of periodicals and children's books. He currently lives in Pouch Cove, Newfoundland. He has served as vice-president and secretary of the Writers' Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador. He is also a member of the Writers Union of Canada.
Dan is a composer, songwriter, and record producer. He owns and operates an arts consulting company called Second Stage Creative Arts, providing support services to writers, musicians and visual artists. Over the past decade, while living in Newfoundland, he has produced a series of recordings by local acoustic artists including John Barry Cossar, Ed Kavanagh, Atlantic Union and Ariel Rubin.
His writing has been recognized with awards both regional and international, and his work has been anthologized and broadcast regionally and nationally on CBC radio. Dan's publications include the biography SALT ON THE WIND: THE SAILING LIFE OF ALLEN AND SHARIE FARRELL (Horsdal and Schubart, 1996), short stories THE BURN (OnSpec Magazine, 1996) and THE SINGING (Tesseracts Nine, 2005). He is currently working on two novels, a futuristic adventure novel and a contemporary magic realist novel exploring the shifting relationship between native and non-native realities.
Dan Rubin is a retired teacher and school principal, with three decades of experience working in First Nations and rural communities on cultural and economic renewal as well as in public schools.
