Perhaps link to Greg Egan's index should be added here? Roglo 08:50, 13 Dec 2007 (CST)
- Looks good! I have added it to Sources of Bibliographic Information and the main Interzone page. Thanks! Ahasuerus 11:43, 13 Dec 2007 (CST)
Issue Dates
I have a question: given that Interzone is bi-monthly, should the date be given for the first month or the second month of the issue. I notice that it's partly standardised on the second - so, for example, July/August 2009 is dated 2009-08-00. I'm not sure I understand the logic of this - it would make more sense to date it as per the month it appears.Iansales 11:36, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
- Help:Screen:EditPub#Year says: "For bimonthly magazine dates, use the earlier month: "January-February 1957" should be entered as "1957-01-00", for example. If a bimonthly magazine only quotes a single month in the title, use that month. E.g. the March 1959 issue of Fantastic Universe was preceded by January 1959 and succeeded by May 1959; it should be entered as "1959-03-00". If a bimonthly issue spans a year boundary, such as a December-January 1960 bimonthly issue, use the earlier year and month..."
- If there is a special rule for Interzone It ought to be documented on the main Interzone wiki page (Magazine:Interzone Science Fiction and Fantasy). -DES Talk 12:46, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not aware of a special rule, but looking at the issue grid for Interzone, almost every issue for the past five years is dated as the later month. Issues in 2005 and half of 2004 are dated for both months. Prior to that, it was mostly monthly.Iansales 14:21, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
- A lot of the basic data for recent Interzone issues were entered by myself from the website which does not clearly indicate month of publication data so I had to guess. Hurray! that somebody is doing an intensive job on Interzone - and hopefully also Black Static and maybe even more British mags; our coverage for Brit mags is sadly deficient. I notice that there are now multiple editor attributions. It has been a general practice to try to limit editor attributions to the primary editor since we don't have a way of designating editor roles. Again thanks for giving this excellent magazine the treatment it deserves.--swfritter 16:08, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
- The date of publication listed within the publication date should also be checked. The last ezine issue I own is issue #222 which is dated June 2009 on the title page. There does not seem to be any priority between cover date and title page date in Help so different editors might enter such data differently.--swfritter 17:52, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I don't subscribe to Black Static, but I have two decades worth of Interzone issues. I can alter the publication date to the earlier of the two months, but shouldn't the title for each reflect that it's bimonthly? So, for example, #221, published 2009-03-01, says "March/April 2009" on the cover.Iansales 19:18, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
- Our basic standard is to list data as it is presented in the magazine. My own personal preference is what is on the cover. So in the case of issue #221 your inclinations sound correct to me. If there is a discrepancy between the cover and the title page it should be stated in the pub notes. Also, our stated standard for bi-monthly issues is to use a hyphen rather than a slash - like "March-April 2009". I think I would actually prefer the slash but the standard has been around for a long time.--swfritter 22:53, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
- When you do change the dates it will also, alas, make sense to change the dates for the contents that originally first appeared in the issue in question. If a title has been merged you will not be able to change it from within the pub editor. Instead it will have to be changed at the title level of the story. If you need further explanation just throw a note out on Help.--swfritter 22:59, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
Interior Art
I have another question. I notice that on some issues of Interzone on the database the interior art has been entered. Should I be doing this for the issues I enter?Iansales 15:35, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- It would be appreciated, but is not essential. We don't want to make magazine entry so onerous that it puts people off, but the more data the better. If you get the fiction, essays and reviews in I'd say it could be verified, but if you're going to miss some detail out a note would be handy about how much detail you went into. For instance, I'm working on Vector and am entering Letters but not Interiorart. I won't mind if people add those later. As I seem to be the only person working on Vector I'll record that at series level, but if you're working on a small subset then pub level notes might be better.
