DarkStar Books

DarkStar Books is the genre fiction imprint of a new publishing partnership, Britton & Knowles. Our other imprint, Lone Star Publishing, publishes non-fiction and YA fiction, including SF and fantasy works. B&K owns and operates the printing plant; we print both digitally (using the latest HP Indigo press) and on our three Heidelberg offset presses. Our books are distributed internationally by National Book Network.

We produce quality hard cover books and perfect bound trade paperbacks on acid-free, archival paper, partially or fully illustrated, with original cover art and interior illustrations. Regardless of whether or not the text is digitally printed, we always print our covers and jackets on the five-color Heidelberg offset press.

The fiction genres DarkStar publishes include SF, fantasy, horror, historical, and mystery/suspense. We’re working on a new gaming system for RPGs, and we’re planning to eventually create a graphic novel division. Our artists are also working on a series of posters, cards, and numbered prints for our line. Our first group of novels, published in late 2009, includes:

Robert Asprin’s NO Quarter -- This is NYT bestseller Robert Asprin’s last completed work, written with Eric Del Carlo and Teresa Patterson. It is a dark fantasy/suspense novel, a spin-off that is connected by shared characters and shared location to his Dragons Wild and Dragon’s Luck novels, and the forthcoming Dragons Deal.

Rory Harper’s Petrogypsies -- First published (mass market) by Baen Books in 1989, this is a revised edition of the critically-acclaimes science fiction adventure novel with new, original cover art by Hugo-winning artist Brad Foster. We plan to continue the series with at least two more novels, Sprocket Goes International and Sprocket Goes Interstellar.

Darlene Bolesny’s Morticai’s Luck -- This is a swashbuckling fantasy, first in the Duanor series, with original cover art by Veronica V. Jones. It is a heavily revised and expanded version of Trail of Darkness, which was published (mass market) in 1996 by TSR but never actually fully distributed.

Stephen Banister’s The St. Charles House -- This is a suspense/mystery novel, set in Austin, Texas, that just received a top review from Mystery Scene Magazine, and it is also the first in a planned series. The next novel is titled Cerveza, Texas.

Our genre projects in progress or in negotiation for both imprints include continuations of the above series and new novels by John Steakley (bestselling author of Armor and Vampire$), Hugo-winner Mike Resnick, graphic novelist and game art designerPhil Brucato, Karen Bogan, K.M. Tolan, and many others.
