Founded in 1837 as "Charles C. Little and James Brown". In 1847 the firm's name was changed to Little, Brown and Company. The imprint was purchased by Time Inc. in 1968, and so became part of the Time Warner Book Group when Time merged with Warner Communications in 1989. In 2006, Little, Brown and Co was sold by Time Warner to the French publishing group Hachette Livre.
