The book review department of Galaxy initially ran from the first issue in Oct. 1950 through Dec. 1963 with slight title variation:

  • Galaxy's 5 Star Shelf: <Jan. 1951>-Dec.1963

Reviewers were:

  • Groff Conklin: Oct. 1950-<Sept. 1955>
  • Floyd C. Gale (pseudonym of Floyd Clifford Gold): <Nov. 1955>-June, Oct. 1963
  • Theodore Sturgeon: Aug. 1963
  • Theodore Sturgeon and Frederik Pohl: Dec. 1963

Some issues featured guest reviewers:

  • Willy Ley: Aug. 1951
  • Robert A. Heinlein: Dec. 1951
  • Villiers Gerson: June 1952

Books reviews were not published in 1964 and 1965 until the department was revived as Galaxy Bookshelf in Feb. 1966 with Algis Budrys as the reviewer
