The Tomorrow Log second printing

I was getting ready to PV The Tomorrow Log when I noticed that my copy says "Second edition March 2003" above the number line at the bottom of the copyright page. Would you mind checking your copy and see if it has the same info? Thanks! Phil 11:35, 13 January 2022 (EST)

Well spotted and you're absolutely correct. Edit submitted. AliHarlow

The Gods of Foxcroft

Added notes and cover scan for this publication --Mavmaramis 12:43, 19 January 2022 (EST)

Convergent Series

Re this publication. Cover art is credited. "Illustration: Peter Jones" is printed vertically top right along spine. --Mavmaramis 14:48, 20 January 2022 (EST)

Shadowkeep

Added the cover artist to the Alan Dean Foster publication and updated Note to indicate source (German edition).

P.S. Your choice of dark blue for the banner at the top of the Talk page makes the black lettering difficult to read. ../Doug H 10:50, 29 January 2022 (EST)

John Brunner / The Squares of the City

I am editing / PVing The Squares of the City and will import the two essays at the back of the book and add notes. Teallach 11:21, 13 February 2022 (EST)

John Brunner / The Jagged Orbit

I am editing / PVing The Jagged Orbit and will add publication month and cover artist. Teallach 13:44, 14 February 2022 (EST)

Hasan

For Hasan: Do you mind if I add "First Tor printing: January 1986", number line data, credit for the map artist, and the map title before I PV? Thanks! Phil 06:43, 16 February 2022 (EST) Of course not. Go for it.--AliHarlow 09:52, 21 February 2022 (EST)

Stealers' Sky

For Stealers' Sky, do you mind if I add the maps title, "Ace edition/December 1989", and the number line before I PV? Phil 12:23, 18 February 2022 (EST) Sure. --AliHarlow 09:52, 21 February 2022 (EST)

The Sword and the Satchel

For The Sword and the Satchel, if it's OK with you I'd like to replace "1st printing" with "First Edition: May 1980" and "No printer's key or printing statement so first printing assumed". I'd also like to change the page count to [6]+312. Thanks! Phil 07:30, 28 February 2022 (EST)

Sure. Presumably you will also update the page number for the map to [6] otherwise it seems a bit pointless.--AliHarlow 08:33, 1 March 2022 (EST)
Indeed I will! Phil 10:20, 1 March 2022 (EST)

Bili the Axe

I added cover art credit to the pb of Bili the Axe that you verified... the art is same as hardcover and appeared in the trading card set (one of them!) Susan O'Fearna 01:01, 6 March 2022 (EST)

Lyre of Orpheus

Added cover image and (artist) to cover artist's name because he's not the author of the same name; finding what I believe is the right cover for this edition was tough, so let me know if it's the same as yours; http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?5265892. --Username 13:51, 19 March 2022 (EDT)

Looks good to me. Thanks. --AliHarlow 05:17, 20 May 2022 (EDT)

Keepers of Edanvant

For Keepers of Edanvant, I'd like to make the following changes before PVing:
1. Change page count to [6]+346
2. Change the title for the map from "Keepers of Edanvant (frontispiece)" to "Keepers of Edanvant (map)". It's definitely not a frontispiece.
3. Change the map page from bp to [6]
4. Add note "Both the title page and the cover show "Sword & Circlet 1" but this is the third book in the Sword & Circlet series."
5. Add notes for the cover artist and map artist.
Thanks! Phil 08:39, 26 March 2022 (EDT)

All look good to me. Thanks. --AliHarlow 05:21, 20 May 2022 (EDT)

The Cult of Loving Kindness

Approved the addition of a cover image to your verified pub. John Scifibones 17:11, 5 May 2022 (EDT)

Lyonesse III: Madouc

Expanded the notes for this edition. --Mavmaramis 12:28, 16 May 2022 (EDT)

Black Star Rising

http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?4681

What is the colour of the author's name: "Frederick Pohl" on the spine of the book, as well as, what is the colour of the title of the book: "Black Star Rising" on the spine? --Spacecow 13:50, 21 May 2022 (EDT)

They are both in the same colour. A desaturated yellow. You might call it "cream." Quite distinct from the gold of the author's name on the front cover.--AliHarlow 15:16, 24 May 2022 (EDT)

Close to Critical - cover art

Hi, you're the only active PV for this pub, which has a note "The artist is not credited, no visible signature on the artwork". A tweet earlier today mentions a Dave Langford list of art by Josh Kirby that includes this cover. The list seems to be based on notes by Kirby himself, so would seem to have a reasonable basis in fact. At the least, this seems worth mentioning in the pub note, but maybe that list is sufficiently "official" to justify a proper credit? Thoughts/objections? Thanks ErsatzCulture 10:13, 9 July 2022 (EDT)

I would suggest you add him as the artist with a pub note to the effect of where you sourced that information. A moderator can always reject it if they feel it lacking status. I certainly have no objection.

Elric of Melniboné

For Elric of Melniboné, would you mind if I add the map on page 8 and notes for the edition, printing, cover, map, and other currencies? Thanks! Phil 08:35, 20 July 2022 (EDT)

No; please do.--AliHarlow 08:16, 21 July 2022 (EDT)

The Moment of the Magician

For The Moment of the Magician, would you mind if I change the page count to [8]+312 and import the map on page [6]? Phil 07:54, 12 August 2022 (EDT)

No, please do. --AliHarlow 09:43, 14 August 2022 (EDT)

Silent Songs ISBN

Hi. Would you check the ISBN for your Silent Songs e-book? The ISBN in your submission is not valid. Just let me know what it should be (or what that number in the submission is, if it's not meant to be the ISBN), and I will correct it when I process the submission. Thanks. --MartyD 09:07, 3 September 2022 (EDT)

Hi Marty. You're quite right, but that's the ISBN that Kobo display. This is true of all the StarBridge ebooks that I have entered and, so far, I have simply added a comment to note that fact. If something else is more appropriate, please let me know. --AliHarlow 11:12, 3 September 2022 (EDT)
I was going to tell you that doing something else is more appropriate, but I see our help does not match what I would have told you. So I have started a rules and standards discussion to see what people think we ought to be doing. Maybe we will get some good feedback. :-) I will keep the submission on hold for a little while and will accept it with whatever adjustments seem appropriate based on that discussion. --MartyD 12:54, 3 September 2022 (EDT)
Thanks Marty. Just as an additional point. I went back over my StarBridge ebooks and I see that, at least in some cases, the relevant moderator has quietly changed them to be catalog IDs rather than ISBNs. Depending on the results of your discussion, it might be useful to revisit these. --AliHarlow 15:24, 3 September 2022 (EDT)
I am very sorry about the long delay. The upshot is that if it's not really an ISBN (which these are not), then it shouldn't go into the ISBN field. I will accept the clones, move the number to the catalog ID field, and add a note that the publisher represents it as an ISBN. I'll see about making similar updates to any others I can find. Thanks for your patience. --MartyD (talk) 08:07, 8 October 2022 (EDT)
No problem, Marty. I've removed the 1994 afterword as per my notes.
Here is Silent Songs. Your note to the moderator said something about removing the 1994 afterword, but your pub notes talk about multiple things in the bonus material, so I did not do the removal, in case there's more to fixing up the content than just that. --MartyD (talk) 08:14, 8 October 2022 (EDT)
Here is Voices of Chaos. --MartyD (talk) 08:17, 8 October 2022 (EDT)

The Outskirter's Secret

For The Outskirter's Secret, I'd like to:
1. Change the page count to [8]+342
2. Change the map author to Rosemary Kirstein and add an associated map artist note
Thanks! Phil 07:25, 4 September 2022 (EDT)

Hi Phil. I've no objections whatsoever, but I'm interested why you decided on [8] rather than [10]. The help pages all seem to assume that you can count back from the first numbered page, which you clearly can't in this case. I can see why it might be appropriate to consider the title page as the first actual page, but I can't find any written justification for dropping the preceding blind folio in the help text.--AliHarlow 03:59, 5 September 2022 (EDT)
I messed up. It's actually [10]. Phil 23:01, 5 September 2022 (EDT)
Hah. Well glad I asked a stupid question then! --AliHarlow 01:24, 6 September 2022 (EDT)

Philip K. Dick / Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

I am editing and PVing Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and propose to change the date from 1972-00-00 to 1972-09-00 and add a pub note stating the source: Galactic Central Bibliography. I will also add the month to the associated records. I will be adding the month to several other PKD books in the near future. Teallach (talk) 13:39, 5 November 2022 (EDT)

Philip K. Dick / Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said

I am editing and PVing Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said and will replace cover image with scan from my copy. Previous image was re-used from the 1976 Panther printing but the 1979 cover has differences in colour of some typography and ISBN instead of SBN. Teallach (talk) 16:08, 6 November 2022 (EST)

A World of Difference

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?5484199; Someone uploaded the 1970 Sphere to Archive.org last month so I added a link, and also entered 5/- as price and moved pence price to the notes as I've been told is standard for books with both prices, pre-1971. --Username (talk) 11:12, 10 November 2022 (EST)

The Steerswoman

Regarding this submission: Does the publication list Smashwords within it? Smashwords is more a distributor than a publisher. Looking at the Amazon Look Inside, this seems a self-published work sold through both Amazon and Smashwords? Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 09:49, 19 November 2022 (EST)

Yes, although you may still be right. Copyright page has:

"Published by Rosemary Kirstein

Copyright 1989, 2003, 2013 by Rosemary Kirstein ALL RIGHTS RESERVED Smashwords Edition"

followed a little later by:

"Smashwords Edition, License Notes

This ebook is licensed for your personal enjoyment only. This ebook may not be re-sold or given away to other people. If you would like to share this book with another person, please purchase an additional copy for each recipient. If you’re reading this book and did not purchase it, or it was not purchased for your use only, then please return to Smashwords.com and purchase your own copy. Thank you for respecting the hard work of this author."

I have rejected the edit & updated the pub to set the publisher to Rosemary Kirstein, based on the "Published by Rosemary Kirstein". Smashwords is acting as a distributor / seller and not a publisher in this context. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 08:40, 26 November 2022 (EST)

Richard C. Meredith / The Sky Is Filled with Ships

I am editing and PVing The Sky Is Filled with Ships and will add minor pub notes including one about the different and invalid ISBN stated on copyright page. Teallach (talk) 18:35, 13 December 2022 (EST)

Alan Dean Foster / Spellsinger

My copy of Spellsinger has two different ISBNs on the rear cover: 0 7088 8110 6 in barcode box and 0 7088 2233 9 to the left of barcode box. Is your copy the same? Teallach (talk) 18:21, 20 December 2022 (EST)

Yes. The copyright page has "0 7088 8110 6" which I believe is what we consider to be authoritative.--AliHarlow (talk) 07:38, 21 December 2022 (EST)
Yes, I agree, the copyright page takes precedence. I will add pub notes including one about the additional ISBN on rear cover. Thanks for checking your copy. Teallach (talk) 18:09, 6 January 2023 (EST)

Cherryh - Brothers of Earth

Hi, I've corrected a typo on your PV here: 'Daw Wilson -> Dawn Wilson'. Thanks, Kev. --BanjoKev (talk) 15:21, 3 January 2023 (EST)

PKD - Blade Runner

Hi, re your PV here, would you have any objection to me filling out the Notes section in this format/style? There's a better cover image there too. Thanks, Kev. --BanjoKev (talk) 03:55, 5 January 2023 (EST)

No, please feel free.--AliHarlow (talk) 12:06, 12 January 2023 (EST)

PKD - Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said

Hi, just adding author's copyright date to this. Thanks, Kev. --BanjoKev (talk) 04:09, 5 January 2023 (EST)

Frank Herbert / Heretics of Dune

I am editing and PVing Heretics of Dune and will replace unstable Amazon cover image, create Coverart record and add pub note for source of artist as per rear cover. Teallach (talk) 17:09, 30 January 2023 (EST)

Dante's Inferno

I approved your submission creating Dante's Inferno: The Indiana Critical Edition. By using 'Add New 'Novel', you created a new title record. I went ahead and merged it with the correct title record. (Your note says you intended to import the correct title). Next time, go to the existing title record and use 'Add Publication to This Title'. That will eliminate the merge step. All that's left is to add a pipe to the title to put it in your intended position. Well done. John Scifibones 10:46, 6 February 2023 (EST)

Thanks and page number now submitted.--AliHarlow (talk) 12:52, 7 February 2023 (EST)
Approved. John Scifibones 19:13, 7 February 2023 (EST)

The Entropy Tango

The Shockwave Rider

I'd like to add this cover to your PV, thanks. Fjh (talk) 21:39, 19 February 2023 (EST)

Charles de Lint / Moonheart: A Romance

Further to the discussions here:Philfreund and here:GlennMcG, could you please check your PVd copy of the Ace pb 2nd print and let me know whether it states "A Romance" underneath the title on the title page. Teallach (talk) 18:44, 14 February 2023 (EST)

It does indeed.--AliHarlow (talk) 12:43, 15 February 2023 (EST)

Gene Wolfe / The Fifth Head of Cerberus

I am editing and PVing The Fifth Head of Cerberus and will correct page count notation from [192] to 192 and add pub note. Teallach (talk) 18:32, 21 February 2023 (EST)

The Death of a Legend

PKD - Bloodmoney

Hello, could you help by confirming the title (as on the title page) of your 1990 Legend edition and whether there is a foreword or afterword. I'm sorting this earlier 1987 Arrow edition, with the same ISBN and cover art but confused titling. Thanks, Kev. --BanjoKev (talk) 19:12, 10 May 2023 (EDT)

Sure. I'm away for the week, but remind me if I don't get to it by Sat 20th.--AliHarlow (talk) 14:31, 12 May 2023 (EDT)
So, Title is "DR BLOODMONEY" over "Or How We Got Along After The Bomb". No forward or afterword. Front matter is cover, epigraph (quote from chapter VII; p. 109), front sales, title page, copyright page, accolades. Back matter is just back sales.--AliHarlow (talk) 07:49, 20 May 2023 (EDT)
Thanks for looking that out for me, appreciated. I can sort out the other title now. Kev. --BanjoKev (talk) 12:38, 20 May 2023 (EDT)

The Merchants' War

I contacted Alan Craddock on Facebook to ask if he did the cover art for this. He has confirmed to me that it is by Angus McKie. Record amended accordingly. --Mavmaramis (talk) 13:11, 24 May 2023 (EDT)

Captive Universe

this edition is identical to this edition. I'm going to submit a deletion request and move my verification to the later. --Mavmaramis (talk) 11:08, 29 May 2023 (EDT)

The two books have different catalogue numbers (and only #43486 has a price for South Africa). #43486 is presumably a later printing than #43478. I don't know which copy you have and where your verification should be, but please don't delete either record.--AliHarlow (talk) 02:42, 31 May 2023 (EDT)
Don't worry, I have rejected the submission to delete. John Scifibones 15:29, 31 May 2023 (EDT)
Thanks John.--AliHarlow (talk) 05:29, 3 June 2023 (EDT)

Planet of the Dreamers

https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?284940; BookScans cover now available, [1], in case you want to upload full image or your PV copy's covers are illegible or whatever. I also wrote a message on Community Portal about fixing publisher to differ it from a few on ISFDB that are by UK branch of US Viking hardcover publishers. --Username (talk) 14:29, 24 June 2023 (EDT)

I don't see any problem with the existing scan, but if you want to upload a new version I have no objection. Re. the publisher. I have no problems with correcting this if it is wrong, but I'm not clear what the correction should be. Creating a new 'Viking Press' publisher seems implausible. The title page says "Viking Press" over "36 Great Russell Street · London, W.C.1"--AliHarlow (talk) 01:37, 26 June 2023 (EDT)
https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/view_submission.cgi?5796950; British PB publisher is "Viking Books" on ISFDB, 1 Andre Norton book already entered by someone, I changed publisher of this book to that. --Username (talk) 10:05, 25 October 2023 (EDT)

Morrow - This Is the Way the World Ends

Hello, I'm letting you know I'm importing the Christopher Gibbs cover art title to your PV here (as credited in the paper 1st printing), and adding a note re the credit source. Also adding the publisher Orion to the Gollancz imprint (i.e. Gollancz / Orion). Let me know if you see anything awry. Thanks, Kev. --BanjoKev (talk) 19:41, 18 July 2023 (EDT)

Harrison - The Stainless Steel Rat Goes to Hell

Hello, I'm letting you know I'm adding the publisher to the imprint (i.e. Millenium / Orion) to your PV here as noted. Kev. --BanjoKev (talk) 15:56, 14 August 2023 (EDT)

Priest - Inverted World

Hello, can I ask you to check the cover of your copy of this ebook. The Amazon image is showing with the pink clouds above the author's name whereas all the paper editions show the clouds to be (mostly) below the name; example here. Thanks, Kev. --BanjoKev (talk) 20:36, 8 October 2023 (EDT)

Looks right to me.--AliHarlow (talk) 06:27, 26 January 2024 (EST)

Christopher Stasheff / Escape Velocity

I am editing and PVing Escape Velocity and propose to: 1) delete the note "Except for the number & price this cover image is the same as shown." The cover image is completely correct, including price and ISBN. 2) remove incorrect coverart record "[as by Steve Hickman]" and import the correct one "by Stephen Hickman". Artist is credited "Stephen Hickman" on copyright page. 3) add pub notes. Is all this ok with you? Teallach (talk) 13:27, 8 February 2024 (EST)
