Welcome!

Hello, Billy P, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!Kraang 13:53, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Eshu & the Anthropic Principle

I accepted your submission of this pub, but had to change a couple of things, and I have a question. First, the price in US dollars must start with the dollar sign ($), a trade paperback is designated as "tp", and had to change the cover art link. We must have explicit permission for websites in order to pull their images up on our page. I changed it to an image on Amazon (from which we don't need permission.) A question: the title you gave us for the publication doesn't match the Amazon listing. Their title is Triangulation: End of Time and you show it as Eshu & the Anthropic Principle. Was that the anthology's title or one of the stories published in the anthology? Thanks. MHHutchins 02:37, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Just checked and saw that we already have a record of this pub already in the database. Further research shows that "Eschu & the Anthropic Principle" is a story in that anthology by Geoffrey Thorne. I'm going to delete the record that you submitted and add the story to the anthology by editing the current record we have for it. Please do not hesitate to ask questions about how books and stories are entered into the database. Also see the help pages listed in your welcome statement. Thanks. Entering magazines and anthologies

When you create new records for magazines and anthologies, the title of the magazine or anthology goes into the first field labeled "Title". Any contents in that magazine or anthology goes below in the fields after Content. There are multiple fields for each content. If you need more fields for more content records choose "Add Title". If you choose only to record one story (as in the case of "The Dame Wore a Tesseract" in the magazine Astonishing Adventure, Issue 3), please note in the "Note" field that the contents are incomplete. I will reject your submission and create a new one from the info you provided and that on the Amazon website. Also remember to use the dollar sign ($) before the price, and use Amazon to link cover images. Thanks. MHHutchins 04:37, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Another bad submission

Your submission for "Or the Tiger" was another invalid attempt to add a story to an anthology. If you don't wish to take the time to read the help pages, here it is simply stated.

  1. First do a search to see if the anthology is already in the database. A search for Distant Shores brings up this title record.
  2. Click on the pub listed for that title record. Sometimes there is more than one pub if the anthology has been reprinted.
  3. From that pub record, choose "Edit This Pub".
  4. The next screen shows every editable field in the record. If the story you wish to add is not listed under Content go down to the "Add Title" button.
  5. Another set of empty content entry fields will show. You will complete as many fields as you have the information for. In this case: Page number is 309, Title is "Or the Tiger" (don't enter the parentheses unless they're part of the title), Date field leave blank (the system will automatically give the date of the pub), Length would be novelette (roughly 7500-15000 words), Author1 would be Geoffrey Thorne.
  6. Go to the bottom of the screen and click the "Submit Data" button.

I've gone ahead and added all of the stories for this anthology. As I stated in my previous message, the title of a story which is part of a larger work doesn't go into the first Title field of a submission. That's for the title of the anthology (or collection, or magazine.) But first check to see if there is a record for the publication already in the database by doing a search.
